-
Biote hormone pellet therapy uses small pellets placed under the skin to deliver a set amount of hormones over time. Treatment may be considered for patients experiencing symptoms associated with hormone changes.
-
Some men and women with hormone-related conditions may be candidates for hormone therapy. Symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, decreased libido, or sleep disturbances can have many causes, so a comprehensive evaluation is important before treatment.
-
The insertion area is most often in the flank and upper outer buttock. The area is cleansed and numbed with a local anesthetic. A small incision is made in the skin and the provider then places the pellets beneath the skin. Instructions are provided on activity afterward.
-
Pellets often last from 3 - 5 months. The duration varies by the hormone prescribed, the dose, the individual’s metabolism, and clinical response. Many patients receive pellets on an individualized schedule based on follow-up labs and clinical assessment.
-
It varies. Some patients start seeing results within a couple of days, while others see improvement within weeks to a couple of months. Rarely, it may take a second round of pellets to notice improvement.
-
Hormone pellet therapy has many benefits, as well as some risks, and are not appropriate for everyone. Risks depend on the hormone given, dose, medical history, and individualized circumstances. Your provider will review relevant risks, alternatives, and monitoring needs prior to treatment.
-
Side effects vary depending on the hormone used and may include acne, fluid retention, breast tenderness, mood changes, or changes in hair growth. Pellet insertion can also cause bruising, discomfort, bleeding, infection, or extrusion. Your provider will discuss risks specific to your treatment.
-
Yes. Pre-pellet labs are necessary to determine the hormones needed, the correct hormone dosage, and to create an individualized treatment plan. Ongoing labs are important to maintain safety and effectiveness. The frequency of testing varies.
